It has been a week since Facebook announced that they decided to change the name of the company to Meta. Now, when you open Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp, you will see the new ‘Meta’ branding added to the apps on iOS and Android phones. The reason for the change is simple, as the company is not only the owner of Facebook but also actively moves towards the development of the ‘metaverse’ experience.

With the rebranding of the company happening at the moment, we still don’t know whether the changes will be significant enough to be reflected in the design or performance of these apps. Back in 2019, the company implemented their native Facebook branding in Instagram and WhatsApp, as a way to show their acquisition. This time, the main intention is to show that the company is a lot more than just a famous social media platform.

According to the Head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, also emphasized the importance of the update. He mentioned that it will be easier for users to understand that you can share a certain Status you have in WhatsApp on Facebook or use the payment features offered by the Meta company. The same applies to other services that may become available after some time.

The company has decided on the name change after heavily focusing on developing virtual and augmented reality experiences for several months. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the company, Meta is intended to become a place where people would be able to have a new level of immersion when interacting with one another virtually. At the same time, he didn’t mention what we would be able to see from the developers in the near future.
